Whilst holidaying in Mexico I came across a group of turtles laying eggs on the beach. They were guarded by wildlife officers whilst laying their eggs. At this beach there was a turtle hatchery. In this hatchery I witnessed a two headed turtle. The wildlife officer picked up the two headed turtle and let us pat it for a short time. The turtle started getting a little upset so it was quickly placed in its tank. What was funny was that one side of the turtle wanted to go one way and the other half wanted to go the other way to escape the onlookers. The hatcheries and turtles are well protected from poachers who are after the shells for the blackmarket.

I was told this story about twenty years ago. I have no idea how true it is. A lady was missing from a cruise liner. The liner retraced its steps and found her on the back of a turtle. When she was safely back on board the turtle swam around the boat - encircling it before swimming away.

Almost forty years ago I was processing turtles at Tropical Traders Geraldton. Turtle meat was not only red but blue-yellowish and green. The shells were later processed into glue.
